With the passage of the PUP report by a 54% affirmative vote during the 2006 General Assembly, followed by the events of the 2008 General
Assembly, which resulted in the narrow rejection of Amendment 08-B by the Presbyteries, and, finally, the passage of Amendment 10-A by
the 2010 General Assembly, (and the subsequent ratification by a majority of the Presbyteries), the denomination has been through a
rough period of division, confusion, and disunity.  The Two Synod Solution represents a constitutional reorganization that can return the
denomination to a genuine period of peace, and unity.

Why a Two Synod Denomination?

The PCUSA and its predecessors, the UPUSA and PCUS, have, for many decades, consisted of two theological schools, the Progressives, and the Evangelicals.  The Progressives adhere to the Auburn Confession and the Confession of 1967, from the prior UPUSA denomination, and feel, as James did, that faith without works is dead.  Pursuant to this, they have focused on political action and social causes.  The Evangelicals have adhered to traditional, reformed, orthodox theological standards and confessions.  The Evangelicals tend to closely follow Biblical standards, as set forth in the Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed, and to a degree the Westminster Confession of Faith.  The Evangelicals feel that the propagation of the Good News of what Christ Jesus has done for us, (e.g. uniting others in a real and personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ), is primary.  In prior years the strength of this denomination has been the existence of both of these schools of theological thought.  The Evangelical Wing took to heart the more political proposals of the Progressive Wing, understanding that faith without works is dead, and the Progressive Wing took to heart the need to center their theology more closely on the Lord Jesus Christ.

The need for Spiritual Integrity:

The original passage of the PUP report and reinterpretation of the Trinity, placed both of the theological schools on their first collision course, (with each of the two theological school's interpretation of the scriptures, and their spiritual integrity, being directly challenged).  The Progressives feel that their interpretation of the scriptures, makes restrictions on relationships, and sexual expression, irrelevant and allows for a more all inclusive definition of doctrines such as the Trinity.  The Evangelicals feel that this is an attack on Biblical Authority, that the Father does have preferences for forms of relationships and sexual expression, as stated in the scriptures.  The Evangelicals also feel that the re-interpretation of basic Christian Doctrines such as the Trinity is an attack on Biblical Authority.  Each camp feels the need to protect their Spiritual Integrity, in these matters, in order to fully serve the Lord Jesus Christ, in their various ministries.

The failure of the PUP Report:

The PUP Report and the passage of Amendment 10-A, presumes that neither school of theological thought, in the PCUSA, has a need to maintain and protect their Spiritual Integrity.
