The Mission of the Proposed Two Synod Constitutional Structure, is four fold:
A. To allow the Progressives and Evangelicals to serve the Lord Jesus Christ in complete Spiritual Integrity, in
their own congregations and Presbyteries, without interference. B. The institution
of a Two Synod Constitutional Structure (One Synod for Progressives and One Synod for Evangelicals)
C. The creation of "Cross-Over Committees", within the geographical boundaries of
each Presbytery Region, to bring together the members of the Presbyteries, which are aligned with their respective Synods,
for fellowship, (e.g. the Presbytery aligned with the Progressive Synod and the Presbytery aligned
with the Evangelical Synod). These 'Cross-Over Committees" would address areas of common concern, such
as Social Justice, Social Action, Outreach, Health Care, shelter and food for the needy, and other areas of
common concern to Presbyterians of both Synods, within a Presbytery Region. The members of the "Cross-Over
Committees" would be drawn from the Presbyteries of both Synods within a Presbytery Region, and
would have the effect of keeping the Two Synods in a close working relationship, with each other, at the Presbytery
level. This would have the effect of strengthening the ties between the two theological camps, as they plan
and work together, each month, on very worthwhile projects in Christ's name. D. This
type of restructuring of the PCUSA should encourage the Boards of Trustees of the seminaries and colleges of the PCUSA to
endeavor to represent both Synods (both theological camps) on their Board of Trustees. However, if a PCUSA Seminary
or College seeks to be closely aligned with just one of the Synods, this should be permitted
and perhaps encouraged. This would have the overall effect of adding to, and building upon, the intellectual
depth and strength of both Synods and build the intellectual strength of all of the PCUSA institutions of higher education.
